When the former no. 1 ranked recruit in the nation and freshman Jackson State cornerback Travis Hunter entered the NCAA Transfer Portal over the weekend, it didn’t look like there would be much of a shot for any SEC football program to nab him. Instead, it seemed as if new head coach Deion Sanders would bring Hunter with him to join the Colorado Buffaloes.

That might not be the case, though, from the early returns and rumors concerning the most likely transfer destinations for Hunter as part of the 2023 portal class. There are some possibilities that are emerging for Hunter in the SEC, including a couple of the biggest programs in the conference.

Moreover, Hunter is definitely the most talented player in the transfer portal at the moment. And there’s a very high likelihood that he will wind up being the most talented player that ever emerges in the portal as part of the 2023 class.

For that very reason, I’m sure almost every single program in the country would love to nab Hunter out of the portal.

A couple of possible SEC football transfer destinations for Jackson State CB Travis Hunter

Here’s a look at four possible transfer destinations for Hunter out of the portal heading into the 2023 offseason.

Colorado

Let’s go ahead and get the most obvious possible landing spot for Hunter out of the way. Colorado is going to be one of the presumed favorites to land a commitment from the former five-star recruit out of the portal.

Sanders was already able to pull off what seemed like a miracle at the time by flipping Hunter’s commitment out of high school from the Florida State Seminoles as part of Jackson State’s 2022 recruiting class. So, it makes sense that most would presume Hunter wants to follow Sanders to Colorado to help build that program.

And it wasn’t all that long ago that a 247Sports report from Carl Reed said that the odds of “Hunter landing at Colorado are 100 percent”. That report surfaced on Dec. 5, right after Sanders took the head coaching job with the Buffs.

I still do think that Colorado is one of the frontrunners at the moment in the race to land a commitment from Hunter out of the portal. But the level of competition that the Buffs will have to face to land Hunter is stiffer than I would’ve initially thought.

It is worth noting that Hunter was in Boulder over the weekend after putting his name in the portal on Dec. 18. I don’t know how much we can read into that, though, since it looks like it might take Hunter a couple of weeks, at a minimum, to make a decision on his next destination.
