BIRMINGHAM – The Fyffe Red Devils were making their first trip to the Final Four since 1985 and didn’t want to make it a brief trip to Birmingham.

On Tuesday night at the Bill Harris Arena, the Fyffe Red Devils turned the tables against the senior Cottage Hill Warriors and dominated the rebounding category, while the duo of Brody Dalton and Parker Godwin seemed to score at will, raising the Red Devils to 63 points . 47 and a birth in the championship game on Friday.

The title game will be a rematch of last fall’s 3A championship soccer game that saw the Red Devils take on Montgomery Catholic, a 76-46 winner in their semi-final game against Winfield.

Both teams struggled to score early on, but Brody Dalton worked for Fyffe and scored six points during that period. Cottage Hill seemed poised to take the lead in second after a 3-pointer setback from Trent Thomas, but less than six seconds ahead, Parker Godwin went coast to coast for a summer beating layup and a 10 -9 to achieve Fyffe lead.

The late basket seemed to carry over into the second, where it scored the first seven points and then stepped on the gas thanks to Godwin and Dalton. The duo scored 18 points during that time as the Red Devils left the Warriors 26-11 in the frame and took a 36-20 lead in the locker room.

For the game, Dalton scored a game high of 26 points while scoring 11 rebounds. Godwin scored 20 for the Red Devils while Micah Johnson filled in with nine points.

The Red Devils also dominated the boards in the first half, beating Cottage Hill 24-12, with 12 of those Fyffe rebounds on the offensive end leading to 13 second chance points. For the game, Fyffe had a rebound of 43:27 and ended with 16 offensive rebounds and 20 second chance points.

The momentum of the rise in the second quarter continued into the second half, where the Red Devils opened the third with a 9-3 run, including a Brody Dalton steal and a two-handed jam. An 18-12 lead in the third game extended the lead to 22 so Fyffe could go the rest of the way.
