Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne, Minister of State for Tourism, French Nationals Abroad and Francophonie, affiliated with the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, attended the meeting of G20 Tourism Ministers on May 4th at the initiative of the Italian Presidency.

The Minister of State and Ministers of Tourism reaffirmed their commitment to providing long-term support to the tourism sector to minimize the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic crisis on employment and tourism destinations in collaboration with local private authorities and relevant international organizations, including the OECD and the World Tourism Organization.

They reaffirmed the need to take action now to rebuild a resilient, sustainable and inclusive tourism sector. The meeting therefore made it possible to adopt the G20 guidelines for the future of tourism drawn up by the OECD, which propose a course of action to promote safe mobility and define better mechanisms for crisis management and the green and digital transformation of the tourism sector. This requires adequate investment and infrastructure.

The Minister of State congratulated the Italian Minister of Tourism on the work carried out during his presidency and underlined the commitment of the French government to support the gradual restoration of European and international mobility in preparation for the summer months. He also discussed France’s efforts towards more sustainable tourism, in line with France’s commitments under the Paris Agreement.
