TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Ohio Governor Mike DeWine visited Toledo on Wednesday, kicking off the state’s Travel and Tourism Day.

Lucas County attracts millions of visitors each year and has more than $ 2 billion in business revenue, according to Destination Toledo.

But the tourism season dropped dramatically last year due to COVID-19.

“I think there is a real build up and desire for the people of Ohio and frankly across the country to get back to normal,” DeWine said.

US $ 4 million will be donated to the regional campaign to increase summer tourism.

“This summer is going to be radically different from what we’ve seen in the past,” said DeWine. “We’re back to normal this summer and honestly wouldn’t be surprised if we didn’t see more tourism this summer than ever before, simply because of the growing desire for people to get out.”
