The government said they are “aware of people having problems obtaining travel permits, resulting in multiple people being unable to board flights to Bermuda”.

A spokesman said: “It is important to note that no Bermudan will be denied the opportunity to return home and the government has communicated this directly to Bermuda airlines. The International Air Transport Association [IATA] has the information that a Bermudian cannot be denied the right to return home.

“Both visitors and residents must apply for a Bermuda Covid 19 travel permit 1 to 3 days before departure. A travel authorization fee of US $ 1,000 will be charged for travelers arriving in Bermuda without a travel authorization, which must be completed on arrival.

“Under the Quarantine Act, failure to pay the US $ 1,000 travel authorization fee will result in a fine. The pre-filled travel authorization fee is US $ 75.00. Applications for travel permits can be found here – https://www.gov.bm/applying-bermuda-travel-authorisation

“It should be emphasized that all persons should ensure that they complete the travel authorization with all required documents. This includes their test results, vaccination certificates or hotels or exemption certificates. It is important to have all of this information before starting the TA process.

“If you do not have all of the information and your vet is rejected, please call the Covid-19 hotline at 444-2498 for assistance. The hotline is open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The helpline is currently experiencing delays and every effort is being made to answer calls and provide assistance promptly. The Ministry of Health will be adding more resources this week to better serve travelers.

“To get an exemption from the quarantine hotel, you need to fill out the online form as soon as possible. If the travel authorization is not filled out correctly and completely, entry to Bermuda will be delayed. You can find the application for exemption here: https://forms.gov.bm/hotelexemption.

“These recent changes were introduced to further protect our community from coronavirus and its variants,” said Health Secretary Kim Wilson. “Bermuda must have strong protection at our borders so we can overcome the pandemic.”
