MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Lots of people are expected to hit the streets – or to the airport – for this Thanksgiving holiday, which could be big business for hotels across the area.

Expedia recently added Myrtle Beach to its list of Top 10 Destinations for Thanksgiving Week.

“A lot of people are coming in this week,” said Nyquajhia White, who works for the Yachtsman on Ocean Boulevard. “Today, because Thanksgiving is tomorrow, we have a lot of check-ins. So people come to Myrtle Beach on vacation to be with their families. “

AAA Carolinas expects approximately 750,000 South Carolinas to travel 50 miles or more from home this Thanksgiving.

The Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce said last week that hotel occupancy looks strong for the holidays, with over 65% each day of Thanksgiving weekend.

Hotels in Pee Dee are also booming.

“Right now, all six of our hotels are at around 85% occupancy,” said Jenny Hunt, Regional Director of Sales and Marketing for High-Rise Hotels. “We’ll probably be sold out from the weekend [Wednesday.]”

Hunt said many people come to Florence for Black Friday and stop others on their way to their Thanksgiving destinations.

“It’s so exciting to see people excited about coming and traveling again,” said Hunt. “It’s very, very refreshing after the last two years we’ve had.”
