Greece wants to double its tourism income compared to last year, Finance Minister Christos Staikouras said on Friday.

“In 2020 [tourism] The result fell from 18 billion in 2019 to 4 billion euros. It is estimated that we could double sales this year, ”Staikouras told state broadcaster ERT, adding that tourism revenue is expected to reach € 8 billion in 2021, up from € 4 billion last year, although still far from the 18 billion generated in 2019.

Tourism is the main driver of the Greek economy. It accounts for around 20 percent of production and employs one in five people.
