Hawaiian Airlines is introducing a new in-flight video to reinforce its commitment to educating guests arriving in Hawaii about how to safely and responsibly enjoy the islands. The five-minute Travel Pono commercial, which will air next week in the cabins of Hawaii’s transpacific aircraft, features five Hawaiian Airlines crew members – including a firefighter, volunteer for search and rescue and marine mammal protection, and a cultural practitioner – the experts share advice on marine and migratory safety, conservation of endangered species and the environment, and best practices in culture and community.

“We have been the hometown of Hawaii for over nine decades, and as residents of this special place, we pride ourselves on welcoming our guests with valuable information that enriches their island experience while helping to protect Hawaii’s natural resources and ours Way of life, ”said Avi Mannis, senior vice president of marketing for Hawaiian Airlines. “Over the past month we’ve heard from our community and staff asking for a video like this, and we’ve listened.”

The Travel Pono video will be shown on the in-flight entertainment system of the Hawaiian wide-body Airbus A330 prior to landing and via wireless streaming for personal devices on the narrow-body Airbus A321neo.

“We all have a shared responsibility to Mālama (for our guests) and in return we ask them to look after us and our homes,” said John De Fries, President and CEO of the Hawai’i Tourism Authority. “We thank Hawaiian Airlines for taking a leading role in educating visitors about how to respect and promote our people and our place for the well-being of our communities across the state.”

The in-flight spot is an extension of the Hawaiian Travel Pono program the airline launched last fall to promote responsible tourism as Hawaii returns to welcoming visitors with its Safe Travels program. Since then, the program has provided thousands of guests with tips on how to experience Hawaii safely and respectfully, shared through Hawaiian’s pre-trip email, website, Manaʻo blog, and social media channels.

In addition to the new Travel Pono video, Hawaiian guests will continue to have access to a library of informative content produced by the airline’s local partners, ranging from safety at sea to cultural education. In April 2019, Hawaiian partnered with the Department of Land and Natural Resources of the State of Hawaii to create public education service announcements focusing on caring for the islands’ natural resources, and this month added videos posted by the Hawaii Tourism Authority for their Mālama Hawaiʻi campaign were created.
