ANN ARBOR, MI – The Homewood Suites are expected to open a new Ann Arbor hotel later this year.

The Hilton-owned brand is opening the hotel in a five-story building at 2457 S State St. in Ann Arbor that is currently under construction but will have 107 suites with full kitchens.

Amenities include an indoor pool, a green roof, an outdoor terrace with fire pits, 26 above-ground and 81 underground parking spaces, and rooftop solar panels to power charging stations for electric vehicles, said Jonathan Azer, project developer at Stellar Hospitality A2.

Ann Arbor approved the multi-million dollar project in 2018, which is expected to be “the first new generation design in the country” for the company, Azer said.

“You have prototypes just like you have a make and model of a car. It’s literally a brand new layout, brand new design. It’s a fresh look and something very unique that goes very well with the city, ”said Azer, adding that the hotel will be operational until“ the end of this year ”.

The framing for the hotel is expected to be completed this week, Azer said.

The hotel industry suffered losses during the coronavirus pandemic and the state-ordered shutdown of non-essential services.

“Things have picked up very slowly. We don’t break even. We don’t make any basic payments, but we firmly believe that things will get better, ”said Azer. “We are very happy to be in this wonderful community. We made this major investment in the city for a reason. We hope that … things get better. “

A rainwater system would also be provided on the site. Other perks include bicycle storage both inside and outside the hotel, free breakfast and social dinner Monday through Thursday, and free tickets to use the Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority buses.
