One of Moon Knight’s greatest victories came when he had to work perfectly with his predecessors to keep Kang from taking over all of reality.

While Kang and his various multiversal variants have recently moved into the spotlight thanks to Disney + s Loki, he is nowhere near the only Marvel character who has gone to war with his past. And although Kang is usually an Avengers-level threat, Moon knight has teamed up with its predecessors to bring down the time conqueror. Marc Spector was saved by the Egyptian moon god Khonshu, who claimed to be Spector’s ancestor, before giving him amazing lunar powers. Spector wasn’t the only person empowered by Khonshu, but he met some of Khonshu’s other servants while trying to save the whole of reality Kang the Conqueror.

As part of the Acts of Evil 2019 event, Moon Knight Annual # 1 by Cullen Bunn, Ibrahim Moustafa, Matt Horak, Mike Spicer and Joe Sabino, Kang traveled in search of the magical totems of Khonshu as far back as 2500 BC. BC back. The scarab, ankh and the scepter allowed its bearer to travel through time and even to control it. When Kang claimed the artifacts, he was transported outside of the timestream where he was confronted with Khonshu. Kang was distracted long enough for Khonshu to teleport the totems to his avatars at different times.

Moon Knight found himself in the present in a reality that was completely controlled by Kang. Spector was hired by Khonshu to restore reality to its rightful state. He was told that he could travel between time rifts because he was the avatar of Khonshu. He began his hunt for the totems and was transported to the Wild West, where he came across a cowboy version of Moon Knight fighting Kang. The cowboy had been entrusted with the ankh, but Kang proved too powerful for him and Spector together.

Then he traveled to Nazi Germany, where he found the scarab and an American soldier version of himself. The scarab gave Spector a chance to travel through the time when he began his hunt for the scepter. On his adventure through time, he saw many different moon knights, including a Roman gladiator, an American revolutionary, and a pirate in the early 18th century. Spector finally found the scepter in Mesopotamia 4000 BC.

Here Moon Knight conjured up the versions of himself that he encountered on his journey to fight Kang in Mesopotamia. They proved successful and with the power of the totems, Moon Knight was banished Kang outside of the time stream frozen in time. To protect the timestream and reality, the very first Khonshu avatar with the totems was also banned from the timestream.

This story really saw an epic confrontation between two characters with different identities or variants of themselves. Through Kang’s widespread misuse of time, he has appeared as variants a multitude of times. Kang’s first appearance was actually one of his variations on Fantastic Four # 19 by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Dick Ayers, Stan Goldberg and Sam Rosen. He appeared as Rama-tut so that he could Catch the Fantastic Four and try to make Sue Storm his queen. He didn’t appear as Kang until almost a year later in The Avengers # 8. Since then, Kang has appeared in various forms, including Immortus and the Scarlet Centurian.

Moon Knight variants against Kang

While Moon Knight occasionally takes time travel, he’s not the seasoned time traveler like Kang. Most of the time, the different versions of Moon knight appear to be different individuals given the same powers that Marc Spector was given. Although some of the variants Spector came across had similar looking costumes to his, they had no similar voice at all. The very first Moon Knight was a black woman, which definitely makes the other Moon Knights seem like separate beings from Marc Spector.

Still, this moment is arguably Moon Knight’s greatest win. Spector doesn’t usually face such a powerful enemy. Usually he faces enemies who don’t necessarily threaten the fabric of the times, like Raoul Bushman or Taskmaster. With Moon Knight and Kang, both come to the MCU, this story could possibly come to life. If anything, it would prove just how menacing Kang can be as he explores the powers of Moon Knight even deeper.
