Winter warnings from Dec 23 to Dec 25, 2021

Crossing mountain passes becomes increasingly difficult, if not impossible, from Thursday night to Friday. The best travel times are early Thursday or on the weekend. The easiest trip is closer to the Front Range where the storm is starting to dry up, like Eldora, Loveland, Echo Mountain. Note that strong winds on Friday and Sunday can cause the ski lifts to be safety closed.

Snow accumulations from December 23-26, 2021

If you’re chasing fresh powder this weekend, keep this in mind Avalanche danger will increase as the snow piles up. An AVALANCHE CLOCK applies to all-mountain zones, with the exception of the Sangre De Cristos.

Since this is a holiday weekend, you should plan for the usual high ski traffic in addition to snow-covered roads and blowing snow. Travel during winter storm warnings is not recommended. Plan additional travel time or even an extra night if the travel conditions are dangerous.

Use CDOT resources such as cotrip.orgto check for chain / traction laws and road closures.
