Have you caught the travel bug after many months at home? Would you like to combine some of the sights and sounds of the tour with a little farming?

Farming the Countryside Podcast Host Andrew McCrea sat down with Al Snyder, a veterinarian, entrepreneur, and frequent traveler (which gave him his nickname “Traveling Cowboy”).

Listen to the podcast episode:

McCrea and Snyder share their top travel recommendations:

Ireland: Snyder says Ireland is a relatively cheap travel destination. He recommends renting a car and staying in a farmhouse to see farming firsthand.

Australia: McCrea notes that you have a long air journey to get there, but Australia is one of its top international travel destinations.

“The ranches there are fantastic to see, as is the outback,” he says. “We think Wyoming is sparsely populated. But I think Wyoming looks like New York City compared to the Outback in terms of the number of people. ”

Israel: “There is enormous agriculture in this destination and you can see how they have to manage their resources in a limited area,” says Snyder. “You can also have the added benefit of a Bible tour.”

“Given the prices as they are and the travel industry is trying to win back customers, it’s often as cheap to travel internationally as it is domestically,” says Snyder. “So if you’re ever thinking of going on an international trip, this is probably a good time.”

US train journey: Snyder recommends driving the Amtrak through the north of the United States. “You can get on board in Illinois or Wisconsin and travel through North Dakota,” he says. “On the way you can see the agriculture in which you can travel comfortably. There is also internet if you want to work a little and not everyone can just take complete time off. ”

Alaska: One of McCrea’s top domestic trips was to Alaska, particularly Fairbanks.

“We chartered a bus that will take us to Prudhoe Bay on the Dalton Highway. that was incredible, ”he says. “You are along the Alaska Pipeline and eventually you are above the tree line and the Arctic Circle. Flights to Alaska are cheap at the moment. ”

Texas: Both McCrea and Snyder are huge fans of Texas. Snyder enjoys Austin and San Antonio.

“The whole area there is so agricultural,” he says.

Last year McCrea traveled from Lubbock to Amarillo through the Oklahoma Panhandle. In Lubbock, his family enjoyed several museums, such as the American Windmill Museum, the Silent Wings Museum, and the Buddy Holly Center. Cimarron County, Oklahoma, is the nation’s only county that borders five states. They enjoyed several beautiful walks and trails around Boise City.

Snyder and McCrea also discuss travel offers, their preferred sources for travel suggestions, and more on the podcast. Of course, the two are a reminder to check out the COVID testing or vaccination requirements for any trips you explore.
