INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Mayor Joe Hogsett honored city hospitality workers at the 30th annual ROSE Awards on Tuesday, and Visit Indy also released its report on the state of tourism.

In 2020, it is estimated that around 40% of the city’s tourism workers were unemployed due to the pandemic, and the city lost nearly $ 612 million in convention business. Indianapolis hosted more than 200 personal events in 2020. Indy also hosted all of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament games that year.

Hogsett said, “However, once the true extent of the pandemic became apparent, we did not sit idly in Indianapolis.”

The 2020 ROSE Awards took place just two days before President Donald Trump declared COVID-19 a national emergency.
