Governor Jay Inslee issued as Travel tips for Washington Today, recommends a 14-day quarantine for interstate and international travel and asks residents to stay close to their home. Inslee joined California Governor Gavin Newsom and Oregon Governor Kate Brown in encouraging visitors entering their states or returning home from trips outside of those states to self-quarantine to help slow the spread of the virus.

“COVID-19 cases have doubled in Washington in the past two weeks. That puts our state in just as dangerous a position today as it was in March, ”said Inslee. “Limiting and reducing travel is one way of reducing the spread of the disease. I am excited to partner with California and Oregon in this effort to save lives along the West Coast. “

“California has just passed a sobering threshold – one million COVID-19 cases – with no signs of the virus slowing down,” Newsom said. “Increasing cases are putting pressure on our hospital systems and threatening the lives of seniors, key workers and vulnerable Californians. Travel increases the risk of the spread of COVID-19 and we all need to work together to keep the virus at bay and save lives. “

“COVID-19 does not stop at national borders. With hospitals in the West overstretched, we need to take steps to ensure travelers don’t take this disease home with them, ”Brown said. “If you don’t have to travel, you shouldn’t. It’s going to be tough, especially when Thanksgiving is around the corner. But the best way to protect your family is to stay close to your home. “

In addition to requiring individuals arriving from other states or countries to self-quarantine 14 days after arrival, state travel advice recommends individuals limit their interactions to their immediate household. The consultations define essential trips as work and study trips, support of critical infrastructures, economic services and supply chains, health, immediate medical care as well as protection and safety.
