The pandemic decimated the Lincoln hotel industry, which resulted in several closing for months and at least two hotel projects being suspended.

But two new hotels that were already under construction have moved on and are planning to open this year.

The Scarlet HotelThe six-story, 154-room boutique hotel on the Nebraska Innovation Campus is slated to open in July.

The $ 31 million hotel, a Marriott Tribute Hotel, will have 2,600 square feet on the first floor and will be a work laboratory for students in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Hospitality, Restaurant and Tourism Management program.

Another six story hotel, this a Holiday Inn Express, to open later this year on Ninth and O streets.

LINCOLN ELECTRIC SYSTEM

A large project that has been in the works for several years is essentially complete.

Lincoln Electric Systems new company campus On 98th Street and Rokeby Road in southeast Lincoln, Lincoln opened partially with a new operations center in April 2019 and is now largely complete, apart from the ongoing construction of a new control center.

The utility will move out of its downtown headquarters on 11th Street and O Street sometime in April, where it has been based since 1987. This building was sold for $ 2.22 million to local company BIC Development, which plans to convert it into condominiums.
