IHG Hotels & Resorts’ premium collection brand, voco Hotels, has opened its first hotel in the Netherlands. voco Den Haag combines typically Dutch design and the straightforward style of voco in the royal and administrative capital of The Hague (as it is called in Dutch).

This impressive former bank building in the city’s royal quarter is close to the city’s shops, museums and heritage sites. The embassy district and the Peace Palace are within walking distance. The historical building from 1923 has been completely redesigned, bank offices and ATMs give way to 204 elegantly furnished rooms on 7 floors of the hotel. By tram you can reach the main train station in 10 minutes and the sea in 15 minutes.

Upon entering the hotel, the guest is immediately greeted by a spacious, airy atrium full of greenery, which sets the tone for the nature-inspired hotel design and offers a green oasis inside. As guests walk through the lobby, they can admire the hotel’s butterfly installation called Flowers Born. The breathtaking 3D installation was specially curated and extends 143 m over the hotel ceilings into the atrium. From thousands of metal butterflies, which are put together to form an enchanting swarm of flying flowers, the piece leads the guests into a beautiful garden. In line with Voco’s sustainability standards, the hotel’s garden terrace was designed by an experienced ecologist who created an inviting space for nature to flourish.

Everyone I’ll call the hotel offers its guests on arrival and on voco The Hague Guests can enjoy a traditional Dutch fondant ‘Borstplaat’, which is considered to be one of the oldest sweets in the Netherlands from the early 17th century.

The guest rooms at voco Den Haag offer a metropolitan design with a warm, but also playful touch in a real Voco style. They also feature signature voco accents, such as premium bedding made from 100% recycled materials and eco-friendly, large-format toiletries from Antipodes, an award-winning organic herbal skin care company. The hotel also features a brand new fully equipped gym and non-hotel guests are welcome to combine work and pleasure in the hotel’s own “Play Work” area of the lobby.

Restaurants & Bars
The hotel’s Botanica Kitchen Bar & Lounge is a destination in itself, serving fresh local ingredients with an 80% vegetable-based menu while offering tranquility in an extraordinary space that blurs the lines between inside and outside. The outstanding dishes include grilled vegetable platters and proteins cooked in a Josper charcoal oven.

During the day, the hotel’s Ultramarijn Wonderbar is a place to start the day with a pastry and dark roasted Java coffee. All-day breakfast dishes and authentic home-style meals are served quickly and easily prepared with the best ingredients. In the evening come down a spiral staircase from street level to the underground; an underground bar where mixologists prepare the most creative cocktails inspired by exploring the Dutch sea.

Managing Director Inge van Weert commented on the opening: ‘This iconic building on Kneuterdijk has been converted into the first voco hotel in the Netherlands, indicating the brand’s diverse portfolio of hotels in new and listed buildings. ‘voco’ means’ to invite ‘or to summon’ and comes from Latin. We hope that the guests at voco Den Haag will do just that. From their first cup of coffee in the morning in our butterfly garden to locals who come for lunch in the Botanica restaurant or end their day with a cocktail in the Ultramarijn gastro bar, we hope to bring people together to enjoy a piece of voco life. ‘
