Julia Budd got off to a good start under the PFL banner.
at PFL championship 2021, Budd (16-3) made her advertising debut in a preliminary round card fight without championship against experienced professionals Kaitlin Young (12-12-1) and won by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).
The 2021 PFL Championship was held at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino & Hotel in Hollywood, Florida on Wednesday. The main card was broadcast on ESPN + on ESPN2 / ESPN + after the preliminary rounds.
Using her strength and wrestling in vintage fashion, Budd displayed a similar dominant ability as she had shown for much of her Bellator tenure as champion. Each round, Budd brought Young to the canvas. All three laps ended with Budd in the lead.
Budds takedowns and tough top game were interrupted by conspicuous arguments. While landing a couple of shots, Young was never able to muster anything significant to earn a round on a judge’s scorecard when Budd swept with 30-27s.
The battle for the 2021 PFL championship marked Budds advertising debut after that sign with the grant earlier this year. Budd entered the PFL with back-to-back wins over Jessy Miele and Dayana Silva in Bellator, extending their winning streak to three with Wednesday’s performance.
With the defeat, Young has now lost two consecutive fights and three of her last five appearances.
