Today the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Covid-19 travel recommendations seem to change as often as the Kardashian’s wardrobes. Every week there are new additions to the list of travel destinations that are considered level 4, the highest of four Covid-19 risk levels. Level 4 destinations are considered by the CDC to be places you should avoid traveling, regardless of whether you are fully vaccinated against Covid-19. In the past week five new destinations rose to level 4: Belarus, Moldova, Romania, Bosnia and Herzegovina and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. You may want to postpone this trip to the Museum of Deformities of the Human Body in Hrodna, Belarus until some time later in 2022.

Four of these five upgraded destinations are either in Eastern Europe or Southeastern Europe. That’s because this region of the world has seen a Covid-19 surge. On Thursday, the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) tweeted the following map of Europe showing the recorded Covid-19 activity, based on the number of reported Covid-19 cases per 100,000 people and the percentage of Covid -19 coronavirus tests are determined that are positive:

On the map, orange is the new uh-oh. As you can see, much of Eastern Europe, particularly Southeastern Europe and the Baltic areas, has the darker orange, maroon color that represents the highest Covid-19 activity.

At the same time, many of these Eastern European countries have Covid-19 vaccination rates, which are well below the 74.7% of fully vaccinated adults for the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA). based on the ECDC Covid-19 vaccine tracker. In Romania, for example, only 34.8% of the adult population are fully vaccinated. Bulgaria’s number is even lower at 23.6%.

In the past two weeks, eleven new goals were upgraded to Level 4. On October 4th, the CDC had already included six destinations (Armenia, Austria, Barbados, Croatia, Latvia and New Caledonia) in this “Avoid Travel” group. As I described earlier for Forbes, Travel destinations become Level 4 if the number of reported Covid-19 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 28 days (that’s just over two Scaramuccis) is over 500. There are now just over a hundred travel destinations around the world at this highest level. They range from Afghanistan to Costa Rica and Serbia to the United Kingdom.

In the past week one goal has moved from level 4 to level 3 and that is Spain. This means that the number of reported Covid-19 cases per 100,000 population has fallen to between 100 and 500 in the last 28 days. For level 3 destinations, the CDC urges you to “Make sure you are fully vaccinated before traveling to these destinations. Unvaccinated travelers should avoid essential travel to these destinations. ”These are in the red area on the map.

If you need to travel to a level 4 destination, take all possible Covid-19 precautions. Make sure you are fully vaccinated. Wear a face mask whenever you are around. Maintain social distance at all times, e.g. That’s about 1.09 times a Halep, as Romanian tennis star Simona Halep is about 1.70 meters tall.
