A tourist attraction in Gwynedd has come on the market. The owner wants to retire after almost 30 years.

Kings Arthurs Labyrinth near Machynlleth has been operated by Ian Rutherford since 1993 – along with Corris Mine Explorers and the Craft Center.

He is now ready to step down and has the complex near Machynlleth on sale at Avison Young for £ 700,000.

Richard Baldwin, director of hotels and leisure at Avison Young, said it was a rare chance to buy a hugely successful tourism attraction.

He said: “The owner has built the business over 28 years and now wants to take a well-deserved break.

King Arthur’s Labyrinth and Corris Mine and Craft Center

“It’s a well-run place and well-known in the area.

“Very few tourist attractions come onto the market and we expect good interest in the location.”

The main attraction is a one-of-a-kind underground boat and walking tour that recounts the early Welsh legends of King Arthur in an extensive maze of former slate mining.

This is complemented by a lively handicraft center, a public café and a shop.

The site is in a previous quarry that was the subject of a major land reclamation program in the 1980s.

In October 2020, the creation of a caravan space for 11 touring units as well as the installation of a toilet block and the landscaping were planned.
