After a thrilling four-set loss to NCAA Division II Newman on Friday night, the Kansas Wesleyan volleyball team bounced back on Saturday with a straight win against Haskell – 25-16, 25-16, 25-10 – at Mabee Arena.
In the opening sentence it was 6-6 with a kill by Morgan Bryan (JR / Wichita, Kan.) Sparked Wesleyan’s offense. The Coyotes would take the next 11 points to take a 17-6 lead, all behind the service game of Mackenzie Pease (SR / Manhattan, Kan.) And several kills for the Coyotes. Wesleyan would shut down the set in the event of a kill Elizabeth Hardacre (JR / Kensington, Kan.).
Haskell led 8-7 in the second set, but the Coyotes equalized with a Bryand kill and would push the lead to 13-8 in the set. The Coyotes were leading 14-11 when another run of Coyotes ousted the lead to 20-11 in a kill by Ryann Kats (SR / prairie view, can.). Chelsea James (JR / Wichita, Kan.) Ended the set with a kill.
Wesleyan raced up 10-3 Malia Mack (JR / Joplin, Mo.) kill in the third sentence and have never looked back. A kill of Delaney nash (JR / Salina, Kan.) Schumann and Bryand led the Coyote offensive with 10 kills each when KWU hit 0.284 for the match. Cortney Hanna (JR / Lawrence, Kan.) Had 28 assists and Josie Deckinger (SO / Wichita, Kan.) Had 14. Emily Monson (SR / Cheney, Kan.) Had 15 digs and two aces for the Coyotes. Schumann also added nine excavations. Bryand had three blocks and Mack had two.
After a rapid start to the season, the Coyotes have a week to prepare for rival Bethany in the next game. The Coyotes and Swedes will play at Noon in the Mabee Arena in a non-conference match on September 11th. KWU opens KWU game on September 15th at home against McPherson.
