TOWSON, Md. – Drexel University’s women’s basketball team (10-6, 7-4 CAA) drove at the SECU Arena in Towson, Md.

HIGHLIGHTS

* Drexel came in, allowing opponents only 55.5 points per game, the best number at the conference and good for 19th place in the country. Towson gained 55 points on Saturday.
* The Dragons used a 16-0 run in the first quarter to get up early, an 8-0 run in the second to get up by 20, and an 11-0 run in the third to lead the competition by 30 .
* DU’s biggest lead was 31 in the third quarter before the Tigers dropped out in the fourth quarter when the competition was already out of reach.
* Junior Keishana Washington finished the game 19 points behind 6-of-13 from the ground, 3-of-5 from deep and 4-of-6 from the line. The guard also had two assists, two ricochets, and a theft in 32 minutes.
* Junior Kate Connolly scored 12 points behind 5-of-8 from the field and 2-of-3 from the three-point range in 25 minutes.
* PhD student Mariah Leonard 12 points with four rebounds.
* Sophomore Hetta Saatman reached a career high of eight points in 4-of-5 shooting.
* Senior Hannah Nihill recorded six points, five assists, four steals and four rebounds in 31 minutes.
* Junior Maura Hendrixson made two Treys for six points along with the team’s top seven rebounds. The junior also recorded three assists and two steals.
* Sophomore Brianne Borcky (four points, four rebounds, one steal) Senior Kayla Bacon (two points, four rebounds, two steals) and Erin Sweeney (two points) also contributed to the win.

GAME WAY

Q1 /
Connolly and Washington each delivered five points in the first five minutes of the game when Drexel took advantage of a 7-0 run to take the lead with a 4:43 minute lead 12: 7 at the media timeout. That stretch continued after the break as the Dragons accelerated the run to 16-0 and took a 21-7 advantage that forced a Towson timeout of 30 seconds. The Tigers ended their 6:30 minute drought with a layup in the final seconds. Drexel led 21-9 after the first.

Q2 /
Drexel started the second with an 8-0 run and took over a lead of 20 points (29: 9) with 7-2 on the clock. Towson snuck in a few minutes later in double digits. The Tigers intervened in the Dragons’ grand lead with a short 5-0 run before Washington lost their second three in the afternoon’s final minute. DU was 36-16 ahead at halftime. Drexel shot 55.2% in the first half, while Towson shot just 20.0% off the 6-of-30.

Q3 /
DU maintained its 20-point lead for most of the third quarter until the final two minutes when the Dragons put together an 11-0 run to double the Tigers after three periods (62:31). Washington led Drexel by eight points, including 4-of-6 from the line. Leonard also went 4: 4 in the third strip.

Q4 /
The kites were able to rest some starters in the last 10 minutes. Towson prevailed against DU in the fourth game 24: 9 and ended the affair with a 12: 2 run.

* DU got 16 points from the bench, led by Saatman with eight.
* Drexel has a total of 11 steals, the team’s fourth game with 10 or more this season.
* Drexel shot 47.5% (28 of 59) from the floor, 43.8% (7 of 16) from the three-point area and 72.7% (8 of 11) from the foul line.
* Towson shot 30.6% (19 of 62) from the field, 23.5% (4 of 17) from outside the arc and 81.3% (13 of 16) from the free-throw line.
