U.S. Rep. Darin LaHood easily defeated three little-known Republican challengers in his race to represent the new 16th Congressional District.

LaHood has represented the 18th Congressional District since 2015. That district was erased under the latest reapportionment.

The new 16th Congressional District includes most of north Peoria and many of the cities to the north, east, and northwest of Peoria, including East Peoria and most of Pekin.

“Illinois and America are at a crossroads. The November election is the most consequential of my lifetime as President Biden, Governor Pritzker, and Democrats in Illinois and Congress put our country on a path of decline,” said LaHood in a statement. “As we move past the primary, it is critical the Republicans in Illinois and across the country come together to support our candidates this fall.”

No Democrats are running in the general election against LaHood to represent the heavily conservative district.
