Warren County works with organizations in the Albany area to fill hundreds of vacancies in the hospitality and tourism industries. The county uses the Tech Valley Shuttle to bring people from the Capital District interested in finding employment opportunities in Lake George.

Don Lehman, Warren County’s director of public affairs, hopes the shuttle service can help attract workers who cannot drive into the area themselves.

“The goal of this weekend is to see if there is any interest in this shuttle from Albany to Lake George. So far there seems to be pretty good interest, at least for this test run on Saturday.”

The event was launched due to the lack of seasonal staff at Lake George. Liza Ochsendorf, director of employment and education administration for Warren County, says the shortage of summer workers is part of a nationwide trend exacerbated by the pandemic.

Ochsendorf is optimistic that the efforts on Saturday will attract a diverse pool of applicants. “We hope teenagers and adults alike will come on this trip. So we hope for a mix, and so we want them to meet a mix of people here in the community as well.”

Ochsendorf hopes to bring people to Lake George and give them a tour of the village to spark interest in working in the region in the years to come.

“We want it to be a long-term initiative. So right now we’re focusing on short-term hires, but we really want to build a long-term program where we can get people to work here every summer.”

Lake George summer tourism season usually starts around Memorial Day, which is just a few weeks away.
