LeCLAIRE, Iowa (KWQC) – Angie Fullmer is the only employee at her Mama Bear’s Boutique LeClaire store selling concealed tote clothing for women. After opening her boutique in April 2020, there were times when Fullmer could only hope to be open the next day.

“It was really, really scary because when you put your life savings, your retirement savings in something like that, and then 2020 comes and everyone closes, everyone stays home, you have to get creative and you have to have a lot of faith and you really will.” create, ”said Fullmer.

Sheila Volrath also opened her Cody Road Coffee shop in spring 2020. Aside from keeping people safe, her biggest challenge was making sure she was well looked after.

“It was a bit difficult to get some of our cups, some of our ingredients for our drinks,” said Volrath.

Now that the summer weather is in full swing and COVID cases are receding, Volrath, Fullmer and LeClaire Tourism Manager Cindy Bruhn are once again optimistic about the summer of 2021.

“A term that comes up a lot is that they (tourists) are dizzy, they feel dizzy, that it’s just like, ‘Oh, we never thought it would be that good again,'” said Bruhn.

“It’s great, that’s the only way I can say it’s great. This is how life should be, ”said Fullmer.

“We are very happy that people are obviously very willing to go out and do something,” said Volrath.
