FARMVILLE, Va .– – The Longwood men’s tennis team cleaned up the house on the New Lancer Courts on Saturday afternoon and defeated Chowan 7-0.
The Lancers (3-4, 0-1 Big South) dominated from start to finish, not dropping a single set on the way to the straight sweep over the Hawks (0-3).
A strong start to doubles gave Longwood the opening point as the top doubles pairing of Guillermo Cagigas and Andrew Ilett There was no game on the way to a 6-0 win over Santino Jose Sormani and Michael Campos. Marc Casanovas and Rosen Naydenov won the colon with a 6-1 victory for the duo of Alvaro Campos and Corbin Robertson.
Casanoves stayed hot in singles, winning 12 straight games to beat Job Williamson in his debut appearance in fifth place 6-0 and 6-0. Ignazio Sandoval scored his third individual victory in second place with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Michael Campos. Ilett took his first individual win of the young season with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Alvaro Campos in three positions. Sebastian Mezo took his second individual win, the first in fourth place, with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Robertson.
In the first individual, Cagigas fought against Sormani 7: 6, 6: 2. It was the first time Cagigas was ranked number one singles in his Longwood career.
The Lancers are back in action on Sunday afternoon, welcoming North Carolina A&T to the New Lancer Courts. The game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
