BATON ROUGE, La (press release) – The Louisiana Office of Tourism and New Orleans research firm MDRG recently announced a Study to determine the impact of the television and film industry on tourism in Louisiana. The study was an update of previous research from 2018. The study interviewed more than 600 respondents from some of the top visitor source markets in Louisiana.

The study found that roughly half of the state’s youngest visitors said a movie, movie, or television show starring Louisiana was a motivator in making the decision to visit the state. In 2018, an estimated $ 1.3 billion in annual tourism revenue came from travel influenced by TV shows and movies from Louisiana. The new study shows an increase, with $ 2.5 billion in tourism revenue coming from Louisiana TV shows and movie influence.

“Louisiana’s unique culture, food and history are the themes and backdrops for a multitude of films, documentaries and television shows year after year,” said Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser. “It’s no surprise that seeing all of the ways you can feed your soul in Louisiana on the big or small screen inspires visitors to experience it for themselves. We’re excited to showcase and promote filming locations as travel destinations as we welcome them back to Louisiana. “

Historic sites, cuisines, and landmarks that portray the state on television and films are most influential for visitors. TV shows about travel are most likely to affect a visitor’s choice of vacation spot, closely followed by TV shows about food.

The study also found that 61% of travelers were more likely to attend more productions that they saw and can place in Louisiana.
