It’s been a record year for revenue at The Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, and they’re looking to expand next season.

They’ve started construction on a new nature center, which they still have a name for, and an 18-hole miniature golf course. The hotel always starts on November 1st with projects they consider low season.

Being on an island presents a unique situation when it comes to building projects like this, and there are two main issues to watch out for throughout construction. “We have most, if not all, of our products over there for construction,” said David Jurcak, operations manager for the Grand Hotel. “There are still some supply chain issues with some materials that we will receive in the spring to complete construction. Given the weather, everyone in northern Michigan knows it’s going to be a little rough over the next few weeks.”

The hotel expects to finish its nature reserve and miniature golf course by mid-May. They are also working on a bike path for younger children.
