Malaysia’s Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said these travel restrictions will be reviewed from time to time.

Starting December 8, 2021 (Wednesday), travelers to Malaysia will travel to Malaysia via Vaccinated Travel Lanes (VTLs-Air); VTLs country; Langkawi International Travel Bubble (LITB) and the one-stop center for short-term business trips are subject to stricter travel restrictions.

This is after The latest announcement from Malaysia’s Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin on December 7, 2021 (Tuesday), due to the increasing number of countries with confirmed cases of the Omicron COVID-19 variant.

In addition, other travel restrictions apply to Malaysian citizens and long-term passport holders entering Malaysia from the following countries:

  • Countries belonging to the national temporary travel restrictions (i.e. South Africa, Botswana, Eswathini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Malawi) and
  • Countries that have confirmed cases of Omicron (i.e. Australia, the United States, Norway, France, and the United Kingdom).

Below you will find the following travel restrictions in detail, which will apply from December 8, 2021.

Restriction # 1 – VTLs (Land & Air)

  • All VTL travelers who have. enter Malaysia VTLs country and VTLs air must be fully vaccinated.
  • Before the departure test:
    • VTL Air travelers: Reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) will be tested two days before departure for Malaysia.
    • VTL land travelers: Have a professional RTK antigen (RTK-Ag) test or RT-PCR test two days before leaving for Malaysia.
  • Tests on arrival:
    • VTL air travelers: Undergo RT-PCR tests in KLIA and KLIA 2.
    • VTL land travelers: Get professional RTK antigen testing at the Larkin Central Bus Terminal, Johor Bahru.
  • Additional tests required:
    • To the all VTL travelers and VTL travelers returning to Malaysia from Singapore:
      • On the third and fifth day after arrival, undergo professional RTK-Ag tests and
      • Perform a self-rapid antigen test (RT-Ag) on ​​the second, fourth and sixth days after arrival.

All Self-test results must be reported through the Malaysian MySejahtera application. And all travelers are not subject to quarantine.

Restriction # 2 – Langkawi International Travel Bubble (LITB)

  • All travelers entering Malaysia via the Langkawi International Travel Bubble (LITB) must be fully vaccinated.
  • Travelers who have suggested entering Malaysia via LITB from eight African countries (i.e. South Africa, Botswana, Eswathini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Malawi) are not allowed.
  • Before the departure test:
    • A reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) will be tested two days before departure for Langkawi, Malaysia.
  • Check on arrival:
  • Additional tests required:
    • Undergo a professional RTK-Ag test on the third and fifth days after arrival;
    • Perform a self-rapid antigen test (RT-Ag) on ​​day 2, day 4 and day 6 after arrival and
    • Undergo an RT-PCR test two days before leaving Langkawi.

Likewise, all self-test results must be reported through the Malaysian MySejahtera application. Travelers in this group are given a Digital Home Surveillance Order (HSO) and are allowed to walk to the hotel while they wait for the test results.

Restriction No. 3 – OSC short-term business travelers

  • All short-term business travelers (STBT) entering Malaysia via the One Stop Center (OSC) must be fully vaccinated.
  • Before the departure test:
    • Reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) will be tested two days before departure to Malaysia.
  • Check on arrival:
    • Undergo RT-PCR Testing in Malaysia.
    • Business Travelers Center (BTC) to facilitate arriving business travelers into Malaysia at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
  • Additional tests required:
    • On the third and fifth day after arrival, undergo professional RTK-Ag tests and
    • Perform a self-rapid antigen test (RT-Ag) on ​​the second, fourth and sixth days after arrival.

All self-test results must also be reported through the Malaysian MySejahtera application.

Although this group of travelers is not quarantined, they must adhere to the length of stay approved by the One Stop Center (OSC) committee (which will not exceed 14 days), practice a controlled itinerary, and have a liaison officer provided by the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA).

Restriction # 4 – Malaysian citizens and long term passport holders from countries with temporary restriction

  • Perform RT-PCR tests two days before departure for Malaysia;
  • On arrival, undergo an RT-PCR test;
  • to undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine at designated quarantine stations, and
  • Undergo an RT-PCR test on day 10 of quarantine.

In this case, the Malaysians should wear a digital tracker during the quarantine and undergo a final risk assessment on the 14th day of the quarantine. If there are symptomatic signs, the quarantine will be extended. However, Malaysians will be released on the 15th day if the result is negative on the 10th day of quarantine.

Restriction # 5 – Malaysian citizens and long term passport holders from countries that have Omicron cases. have confirmed

  • Perform RT-PCR tests two days before departure for Malaysia;
  • On arrival, undergo an RT-PCR test;
  • to undergo a 7-day quarantine (for fully and partially vaccinated persons) / a 10-day quarantine (for non-vaccinated and partially vaccinated persons) at designated quarantine stations or at home, and
  • Undergo an RT-PCR test on the fifth day of quarantine (for the fully vaccinated) / on the eighth day (for the non- and partially vaccinated).

For this group, Malaysians should wear a digital tracker immediately upon arrival and undergo a final risk assessment on the last day (day 7 or day 10) of the quarantine. If there are symptomatic signs, the quarantine will be extended. However, if the RT-PCR test results are negative on the fifth or eighth day, Malaysians will be released from quarantine on day eight (for the fully vaccinated) and day 10 (for the non and partially vaccinated). .
