The ministry noted that this would depend on a risk assessment of the current COVID-19 situation, including the trend in daily cases, the infection rate and more.

Malaysia’s Ministry of Health (MOH) has shared a quick update regarding cross-state travel in the country given the upcoming Aidilfitri season.

In one Facebook post On Sunday (March 21), the ministry noted a recent update from Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who stated in a press conference that interstate travel will be allowed subject to a risk assessment by MOH.

According to MOH, the Ministry will take a look at the “current infection situation and the likelihood of a more serious transmission of infections or vice versa” during a risk assessment.

It includes six key factors, namely:

  1. Daily case situations, including cases that have been healed and are allowed to return;
  2. Trends and infection rates;
  3. The current situation in terms of the death rate and the number of deaths;
  4. The capacity of the beds and wards of the intensive care unit in the hospital
  5. The current situation of infected health workers; and
  6. On-site screening tests, screening for diseases such as influenza, severe acute respiratory infections, and preoperative sampling and admission to the ward.

MOH reviews all data and facts before advising the Technical Committee or making a recommendation so that a decision can be made at the special session of the National Security Council.

This risk assessment is carried out “from time to time”. According to the ministry, the current situation shows a downward trend, although inconsistent, but still early on.

“Given that the national COVID-19 immunization program has just been implemented, public health activities are the most effective at getting past the infection curve high compliance with the SOP It is not impossible that the joy of going back to the village to celebrate Aidilfitri will be felt this year, “it said.
