The Malaysian health minister is pushing to postpone travel between states for Aidilfitri 2021

Dr. Adham Baba said this was because the spread of COVID-19 in the country remained at “alarming levels”, with new variations in the community as the vaccination program continues.

The Malaysian Ministry of Health (Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia or MOH / KKM) has proposed postponing travel between states for this year’s Aidilfitri celebrations.

Quoted in one Article by Astro AWANI, shared on the ministry Facebook page yesterday (April 15) Health Minister Datuk Seri told Dr. Adham Baba, this proposal comes as the spread of COVID-19 remains at “alarming levels” in the country.

He said: “Many parties are calling on the government to allow the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations to be cross-state (travel). The MOH has proposed that the cross-state (travel) should be postponed.

“This is because there are new varieties in the community and the vaccination program has not yet been completed.”

According to Astro AWANI, Dr. When asked if those who received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine could be exempted, Adham said he was still awaiting results from the World Health Organization and the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

He added, “However, for those who work as frontline workers, cross-state activities are allowed as they are required to work.”

At the beginning of March, the General Director of the Health Director, Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, only approved subject to a risk assessment by MOH.

It includes six key factors, namely:

  1. Daily case situations, including cases that have been healed and are allowed to return;
  2. Trends and infection rates;
  3. The current situation in terms of the death rate and number of deaths;
  4. The capacity of the beds and wards of the intensive care unit in the hospital
  5. The current situation of infected health workers; and
  6. On-site screening tests, screening for diseases such as influenza, severe acute respiratory infections, and preoperative sampling and admission to the ward.
