While some have waited over a year to travel again, Mandarin Oriental Ritz Madrid made good use of this time. Renovations began in 2018 and this five-star luxury hotel will be open from April 15, 2021.

The Mandarin Oriental Ritz Madrid is a historic landmark that has been home to the who’s who of Spanish society, political elites, entertainers, business leaders and international guests for more than a century.

The Mandarin Oriental Ritz Madrid opened in 1910 and has one of the best addresses – in the Retiro district by the Prado, Thyssen and Reina Sofia museums, perfectly close to the historic district and shopping.

What can you expect at the Mandarin Oriental Ritz Madrid?

The Spanish architect Rafael de La-Hoz and the French designer duo Gilles & Boissier worked together on the new concept and design. They also retained the integrity of the Belle Époque (1871-1914) architectural period, which combined different styles from Neo-Byzantine and Neo-Gothic to Classicism, Art Nouveau and Art Deco. The hotel is stunning and offers:

  • 153 spacious guest rooms including 53 suites
  • 5 restaurants and bars
  • An excellent spa and wellness center
  • Exclusive meeting and event facilities

Mandarin Oriental acquired the Ritz Madrid Hotel in 2015 and announced the renovation of all rooms and public areas as well as the addition of a spa (which I hope to see). You can now expect an updated hotel with the classic contemporary feel you want today.

Mandarin Oriental Ritz Madrid food

The design, development and culinary processes for the hotel’s restaurants and bars were overseen by Chef Quique Dacosta, one of Spain’s most famous chefs. This contains:

  • A signature Quique Dacosta restaurant: Overlooking the famous hotel garden and a hidden Chef’s Table (a secret hiding place that will impress)
  • Palm Court: Relax under the hotel’s historic and signature glass dome and enjoy all-day dining and traditional afternoon tea in elegant surroundings
  • The Ritz Garden: alfresco dining in an urban oasis
  • The Ritz Bar: Choose a classic cocktail menu in elegant surroundings
  • Champagne Bar – Enjoy a constantly changing selection of the most exclusive champagnes, paired with a typical tapas menu

I’ve had the chance to visit the Madrid Ritz for tea and cocktails a couple of times in the past. I look forward to a visit and a future review. This is definitely a place to stay or just an addition to your plans when in Madrid.
