CLEVELAND – It seems like we talked about the massive surge in tourist traffic just yesterday, airports across the country were filled with a record number of people.

A week later, the Omicron variant is the topic, and travelers at Cleveland Hopkins Airport are also talking about it.

“There are definitely concerns,” said Brad Stefanski. “I have a daughter at home and I am going back to her. I want to make sure that I do everything as safely as possible.”

President Joe Biden said safety is the motive behind his new COVID travel policy.

Starting Monday at 12:01 p.m., all travelers entering the United States from another country must test negative one day prior to departure.

“It’s worrying when you travel,” said Callie Hopes. “I think every responsible person thinks about how they can protect themselves.”

Your vaccination status won’t make any difference in Biden’s new rule, which means that a fully vaccinated American citizen returning to the states is not exempt, but any foreign citizen traveling to the US must be fully vaccinated.

“I think, it [testing requirements] should be strictly enforced when traveling internationally, ”said Toshiba Carter. “If everyone does that and wears their mask, I think everything would be fine.”

Rocky River Travel Agent Leah Molinari said many of their customers already have questions about the option.

“People just let me know that they’ll wait and see for now, but if something changes they’ll be uncomfortable traveling,” said Molinari. “Many of these trips have been postponed from 2020. When people can travel, especially those who are vaccinated, they will be ready to go.”
