JACKSON, miss. (WJTV) – The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) has several free resources to help Mississippi people prepare for a hurricane before a tropical system threatens.

To help neighbors create evacuation plans, MDOT is providing free resources including the MDOT Traffic mobile app, a hurricane evacuation kit checklist, and MDOT Hurricane Evacuation Guide 2021 in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese.

The MDOT Hurricane Evacuation Guide provides information to help develop a preparedness plan such as evacuation routes, countercurrent information, radio coverage areas by the Mississippi public broadcasting company, and vital contact information for the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the American Red Cross, the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency, and the adjacent state DOTs and highway patrols. Important information about animal shelters, animal care, accommodation, and travel resources is included.

The Hurricane Evacuation Checklist provides a list of recommended items that should be included in evacuation kits, including flashlights, a first aid kit, durable food for 14 days, and more.
