The TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database currently records no fewer than 44 Hangzhou hotel projects – most of them are five-star projects.

Our researchers have reported that 44 hotels with 10,437 keys are currently being developed in Hangzhou, the Chinese mega-city home to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of West Lake, and an emerging financial sector. We take a closer look at the most exciting ongoing projects.

Hotel openings in Hangzhou by year

In the remainder of 2021, 13 hotels (with 3,050 keys) are expected to be completed, but only one of them is currently in the pre-opening phase, which rather raises the question of whether some of these launches may be delayed.

Looking ahead to 2022, we forecast that another 17 properties will go live. Things could slow down significantly in 2023, as as of now, only three more openings have been completed before another 11 projects go live in 2024 and beyond.

Of the 44 hotels we observe, 19 fall into the four-star category, while the majority (25) fall into the five-star luxury segment.
