The Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC) has announced that the kilometer rate for medical and medical-legal travel expenses will be increased by 2.5 cents to 58.5 cents per mile as of January 1, 2022.

This rate is payable for travel on or after January 1, 2022, regardless of the date of the breach. Section 4600 of the Labor Code, in conjunction with Section 1920 of the Government Code and the California Department of Personnel Regulations, sets the rate payable for the mileage allowance for medical and forensic expenses and binds it to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

IRS Bulletin No. IR-2021-251 dated December 17, 2021 announced the tariff increase. The updated mileage refund form will be published on the DWC website.
