Tourism Mississauga and the City of Mississauga recognize Tourism Week May 23-30. The city joins this Association of the Tourism Industry of Canada Recognizing the resilience and importance of the tourism industry at this unprecedented time, and encouraging Mississauga residents to support and support local tourism businesses across the city 2021 Tourism Promise to Travel Canada when restrictions are lifted.

“COVID-19 has had a devastating impact on our tourism industry. Before COVID, tourism was one of the fastest growing industries in the world and a leading economic engine in Mississauga. While we are not yet out of this pandemic, better days are in sight and we can’t wait to welcome visitors back to explore our city when it is safe, ”said Mayor Bonnie Crombie. “Mississauga has a lot to offer visitors, including rich diversity that helps create a cultural mosaic and vibrant neighborhoods. With the restrictions lifted, we encourage residents to be tourists in their own city and rediscover the many great features Mississauga has to offer. “

  • Order directly from a local restaurant for delivery or pickup
  • Purchase a local attraction gift card to use in the future
  • Shop online at a local boutique or store
  • Buy a gift card from your local BIA or in your neighborhood
  • Book a stay at a local hotel for now or later this year

As Tourism Mississauga prepares to welcome residents and visitors when restrictions are lifted, the city recognizes and encourages the importance of advocating the COVID-19 protocols and keeping visitors safe the local businesses to do the same. Mississauga, along with over 1,000 other Ontario tourism companies, receives the SafeTravels stamp from the World Travel and Tourism Councilis designed to help travelers identify destinations and businesses around the world that have adopted the globally standardized SafeTravels protocols for health and hygiene.

Mississauga Tourism is hosting its first Virtual Familiarization Tour for meeting and event planners from across Canada on May 26th to showcase Mississauga’s many partners, features and services and to encourage future event bookings in the city.

“We’re proactive behind the scenes to make sure we’re ready to welcome visitors when it’s safe to do so,” said Toni Frankfurter, chairman of Tourism Mississauga. “We have worked to bring future events to Mississauga and we encourage our residents to support our local businesses and help our tourism industry recover from the effects of the pandemic.”

The city will illuminate the bell tower of the Civic Center green on May 25 for the tourism week.

“We look forward to welcoming residents and visitors to explore our great city when the restrictions are lifted,” said Shari Lichterman, Commissioner, Community Services and chief executive officer of Tourism Mississauga. “With many unique neighborhoods, fantastic restaurants and unique local businesses, we offer visitors the opportunity to enjoy many hidden gems.”
