Ira is a former college athlete who says basketball was his priority from ages 7 to 17. “I was chasing the dream. I tried to become the best basketball player I could be, but I got very arrogant – thought I was better than everyone else, ”he says. Ira says he had a full college basketball scholarship, apartment, and BMW, but lost his scholarship when his grades fell – and then lost everything else. Ira’s mother, Chante, says the reason Ira’s life “derailed” is because he started partying and using drugs. She claims he is now homeless because he has a drug problem for which he refuses to get help. Chante says she no longer pays for Ira’s health insurance. She claims that instead of dealing with his drug problems, he used treatment facilities such as hotels when he needed a roof over his head. Ira, who insists he doesn’t have a drug problem, admits that he checked into treatment centers when he needed shelter because he said, “I won’t sleep outside.” When Dr. Phil asked Ira why he couldn’t get a job to support himself, how did Ira react?
