A 24-year-old man is in custody on sexual assault and related charges after he assaulted the person in a vehicle and a hotel room and prevented the person from escaping.
Gustavo Gonzalez, from Middletown, New York, also faces criminal sexual contact, criminal restraint, terrorist threats and a gun injury, according to authorities.
On Tuesday, May 25, Gonzalez physically assaulted the person in his car before driving them to a hotel in Mahwah where he allegedly continued to physically and sexually assault the victim, Bergen District Prosecutor said.
When the victim tried to escape from the hotel, Gonzalez stopped the person with a gun, authorities said.
The victim eventually escaped and called 911, but Gonzalez fled the area before Mahwah police arrived, prosecutors said.
Gonzalez turned himself in to police in Mahwah on Friday, where he was processed pending his first appearance and taken to Bergen County Jail.
