With 123 hotel projects and 51,515 rooms in the pipeline, Vietnam’s hospitality market will continue to advance steadily in the years to come, according to our researchers. We take a closer look at the development of the country.

Vietnam’s hotel openings by year

32 hotels with 11,993 rooms will go live in 2021, ten of which are already in the pre-opening phase. Another 27 projects and 18,303 keys are to be completed in 2022, 26 hotels with 6,859 keys are planned for 2023 and 38 projects and 14,360 rooms are already on the books for 2024 and beyond.

Of the 123 new hotels in Vietnam, 74 will be in the four-star category and the remaining 49 in the five-star segment.

Top markets for urban hotels in Vietnam

Ho Chi Minh City, the economic center of South Vietnam, will see the strongest growth among urban markets with 17 new hotels and 5,064 additional rooms. But the beach town of Nha Trang leads the way in terms of room count, with 5,304 additional keys spread across just ten properties.

Danang and the capital Hanoi will each get ten new hotels, but with only 2,800 and 2,364 keys respectively. In the end, seven projects with 5,618 keys were registered for Phan Thiet, an up-and-coming seaside destination in southeast Vietnam.

Important brands expand in Vietnam

While many international hotel brands are busy gaining a foothold in Vietnam, two stand out from the crowd because of their unusually high levels of activity.

Is groundbreaking Accor‘s Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts Brand that will be launching no fewer than nine objects with 2,442 keys in the coming years. And Smaller hotelsAvani Flag is also very active – it is currently working on four projects with 1,578 rooms.

Vietnam’s most exciting new hotels

A start date is not yet known, but it is already clear that Empire City Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City becomes a major new landmark at the opening. This 300-room hotel will feature an impressive cloud garden and observation deck, stunning interiors by Callison RTKL, and will be part of a new neighborhood that will include everything from homes, offices and shopping malls to schools and medical facilities. The hotel itself is located in the Empire 88 Tower, which will reach a height of 333 meters on the banks of the Saigon River.

The opening is scheduled for the third quarter of 2023. Rosewood Hoi An is south of charming Hoi An, one of Southeast Asia’s best-preserved ancient trading ports and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This beach resort will offer 100 rooms and residences, five of which will include dedicated spa treatment rooms. A spacious spa, several dining facilities and an elegant event room complete the offer.

Finally, just off the south coast of Vietnam, this offers 100 rooms Lux * Phu Quoc opens in mid-2022 – visitors can look forward to luxurious amenities, proximity to the beach and daring design from the BLINK Design Group Travelers didn’t flock to Phu Quoc until the island’s international airport opened a few years ago. Since then, hotel development has gone through the roof here, with more and more high-profile brands offering guests access to the area’s white-sand beaches and relatively pristine snorkeling spots.
