While exploring the TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database, our researchers found dozens of exciting hotel projects across Canada, particularly in Toronto.

Our data shows that 68 new hotels are in preparation in Canada, adding 11,204 additional rooms. Here we take a closer look at the details behind these impressive numbers.

Canada’s hotel openings per year

29 hotels are scheduled to be completed in 2021, which equates to 5,094 new keys. Another 19 projects with 3,245 rooms are expected to be ready in 2022.

Only four launches are currently planned for 2023, but more will likely be put on the development plan in the near future. 16 more hotels are already planned for 2024 and beyond.

Of the 68 new hotels in Canada, the vast majority (51) will be in the four-star category. The remaining 17 will be in the five-star segment.

Top cities in terms of hotel openings

Toronto with its huge metropolitan area will receive 13 new hotels with 2,336 rooms in the coming years.

Five hotels with 761 keys are to go into operation in Vancouver, while four hotels are to open in Niagara Falls. Ottawa and Kelowna celebrate three starts each with 788 and 433 keys, respectively.

Hotel brands expand in Canada

The upscale Hyatt Place According to our database, flag will expand its presence in Canada by seven hotels and 1,000 rooms, making it by far the most active brand in the country.

Courtyard by Marriott and the Autograph collection but will also be busy as everyone wants to add three new traits to their footprint. The former wants to bring in 493 rooms while the latter wants to bring out 447 additional keys.

The new Andaz Toronto – Yorkville will occupy floors four through 16 of The One, a luxury mixed-use tower that will become Canada’s tallest building when completed. 185 rooms and suites, more than 12,000 m² of event and conference space, various dining and beverage experiences and a spa are available to guests. Mizrahi Developments expects the project to be completed by early 2022.

If it starts in 2024, the 146 key is now Hudson Toronto will be a marquee in Toronto’s vibrant King West community, a vibrant entertainment and creative district. Surrounded by a vibrant arts scene, vibrant nightlife and lively entertainment venues, the hotel offers world-class dining and nightlife experiences including a rooftop restaurant, signature restaurant, and bar and cafe.

Nobu Residences Toronto by Madison Group and Nobu Hospitality is another exciting project in town. The listed property will retain the classic brick facade of the original Pilkington Glass Factory and Art Deco elements from the early 20th century. Above it rise two dramatic towers designed by Studio Munge for 120 exclusive residences. There will also be a Nobu Restaurant and a Nobu Hotel on top of the West Tower.
