The construction database TOPHOTELPROJECTS shows that Austria’s established hotel market will continue to grow in the coming years, especially in the capital Vienna.

Austria will open 66 new hotel projects in the coming years and, according to our experts, increase the number of rooms by 8,565 keys. We take a closer look at these upcoming properties – and consider which ones should definitely be on your watch list.

Austria’s hotel openings by year

In the remainder of 2021, 15 more hotels with 1,542 rooms will go live nationwide. This is pretty impressive for anyone, especially considering that only 19 properties and 2,206 keys are slated to hit the market throughout 2022.

There are now 15 projects with 2,652 keys on the books for 2023. And 17 further projects with 2,164 rooms are already being considered for 2024 and beyond.

Of the 66 new Austrian hotels, almost two thirds (43) are in the four-star category, the other third (23) are aiming for the five-star segment.

Austria’s fastest growing urban hotel markets

A little more than a third of the country’s new hotel projects are located in the beautiful provincial capital of Vienna – 23 hotels with 3,821 rooms, to be precise.

In second place is Salzburg with only four new buildings and 504 rooms for this pulsating cultural location in the distant second place. So it is just before Linz, which is waiting for the arrival of three schemes with 597 keys.

Austria’s programs that you need to know

The first of our highlighted properties will open in the second quarter of 2022 in the western state of Tyrol. Located in a popular ski area, DoubleTree by Hilton Arlberg offers its guests 135 suites, chalets and apartments, and 16 premium private residences are planned in a separate area. The latter are sold as residence permits and include optional concierge services.

Later that year – Q4 2022 – the 223 unit Citadines Donaustadt Vienna begins to greet visitors. It is part of the Vienna TwentyTwo urban development project, which will also accommodate the Hotel Bassene Vienna TwentyTwo. The overall project extends over an area of ​​around 15,000 m² and six buildings with an appealing mix of residential, retail, office and restaurant space.

Finally the luxurious Six Senses Residences Kitzbühel Alps will go live in early 2023. Inspired by traditional Austrian design and with warm wooden surfaces throughout, the chalet-style property will comprise 80 exclusive rooms. Guests can refuel with organic dishes from the region in an all-day dining restaurant, enjoy a drink at the bar or sit back and relax in the stylish spa.
