For this exclusive report, we searched the TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database to find out which US states have the most hotel plans on their books.

According to our researchers, a total of 1,560 hotels with 304,257 rooms are currently being prepared in the USA. We take a closer look at the five most important states.

California

California tops our ranking. 247 hotel openings and 44,378 rooms are planned for the coming years. Investors seem to continue to have confidence in the Golden State despite the recent Covid-induced exodus of several large tech companies.

LA is the most dynamic urban market with 52 projects and 11,184 rooms in the works. San Francisco follows with 24 new hotels and 4,481 rooms, while San Diego will receive 14 additional hotels with 2,850 keys.

When it comes to projects to watch out for in California, we want to bypass the usual suspects in favor of one that seems to have gone under the radar by now. Hilton Garden Inn San Jose. In response to the city’s emergence as a global economic powerhouse, this welcoming new 150-key hotel will no doubt appeal to both business travelers and tourists when it opens in the third quarter of 2021.

Florida

The Sunshine State ranks second with 181 new hotels and 41,391 keys. In Miami, a popular business and vacation destination, 38 properties with 9,903 rooms will open their doors – excluding the 13 projects with 2,375 rooms earmarked for nearby Miami Beach. And Orlando will get 24 new hotels with 9,084 keys.

We especially recommend keeping a close eye on it Miami Wilds Family Lodge Hotel. This 200-room hotel will be part of the Miami Wilds theme park, which will feature a 20-acre water park and state-of-the-art retail stores when it opens in early 2021.

Texas

The so-called Lone Star State occupies third place in our list, as 125 hotels with 25,153 rooms will soon be opened here. A quarter of these properties (32) are targeting the five-star segment, while the rest (93) are directly targeting the four-star category.

Austin will see the fastest city-to-city growth with 24 projects and 4,666 rooms in the pipeline. This could be due in part to the fact that many large companies relocated their headquarters to the Texas state capital in the past year. Houston, the state’s oil city, is getting 14 additional properties and 3,319 rooms, while 12 hotels with 2,283 keys will land in Dallas.

Located right between Dallas and Fort Worth is the long-term stay Homewood Suites by Hilton Grand Prairie is worth pursuing. It will be part of a double-brand hotel next to a Hilton Garden Inn and offer 130 rooms and 10,000 m² of meeting space. There are also plans to create new restaurant and retail space adjacent to the hotel.

New York State

As the home of the Big Apple, we probably shouldn’t be surprised that New York State made it into the top 5. No fewer than 118 hotels are planned across the state, adding 25,816 keys to the already impressive offering. Well over half of these hotels are destined for New York City alone.

Among the many ongoing projects here, Aloft New York Chelsea North we really notice. This 531-room hotel is slated to open at the end of 2022 and will be housed in an eye-catching skyscraper. The facade consists of glass panes in a loosely offset pattern, which gives it a very characteristic appearance. A stylish outdoor deck overlooking the Hudson River is one of the impressive amenities that are promised.

Georgia

Georgia ranks fifth in our rundown with 78 upcoming launches and 14,569 rooms. State capital Atlanta will see the most action with 44 openings and 9,452 keys, while Savannah will see seven hotels with 744 rooms and Alpharetta five additional hotels with 812 keys.

A prime example of the emerging Georgian hotel development market can be found here Belly, atlanta, a tribute portfolio hotel to open in May 2021. This chic new build is located in the Westside Provisions District, just steps away from the best bars and restaurants in town. It has 161 rooms, many of which have spectacular views over the city horizon.
