Spanish Tourism Minister Reyes Maroto said on Wednesday that the End of the alarm state May 9th marks the restart of national travel. Bookings for the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands were “triggered” by the announcement that the alarm condition was ending. This means a “positive” recovery in mobility.

Nevertheless, she stressed the importance of resuming tourism “with responsibility and care”. While there is no such thing as full immunity, the government will be “very strict on health-saving measures”.

Maroto added that trust in the US needs to be built Vaccination process. Spain and Europe have “effective” systems for monitoring vaccines and it is necessary to “have the experts come up with the indications”.

The minister expressed her confidence in herd immunity reached by Augustalthough she reiterated that this “will depend on the experts”. Vaccines shouldn’t create “tension”, they should build trust.
