EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) – Firefighters are closely monitoring the Maya Hotel after a fire pierced it Saturday night.

Bob Seger, general manager of KGBA Radio, said he rushed to his office when he heard about the burning Mayan Hotel.

His radio station is next to the Mayan Hotel building, so he feared the flames could spread and catch fire. “I wanted to make sure that the firefighters had access to our facility if our roof caught fire,” said Segar.

Fire fighters have now closed 6th and main streets. They said the building could collapse at any moment. The fire pretty much destroyed the inside of the building.

No word on what might have caused the fire, but the El Centro fire department is investigating. They consider it a possible act of arson, but that has yet to be confirmed.
