Finding your way around the gigantic New World map is no easy task. With enemy monsters and players lurking around every corner, it should come as no surprise that the safest way to get from point A to point B is New World’s fast travel system.

Unfortunately, traveling fast isn’t as easy as opening a map and clicking your destination. In fact, some forms of fast travel require an elusive resource known as an azoth – and you need to be very careful about how you spend it. No matter where you want to go or how you want to get there, here’s what you need to know about New World’s fast travel system.

This is how fast travel works in the New World

There are three different ways to travel fast in the New World – and none of them are perfect. However, if you are in a hurry, using one of these systems is your best bet.

Do you remember an inn

The first method of fast travel is incredibly limited, but it doesn’t require any resources or currency. Within the first hour of playing New World, you will be asked to check-in at a nearby inn. This acts as a respawn point if you die in combat and can also be used as a quick travel location no matter where you are in Aeternum. This is how it works:

  • Open the world map.
  • Move the mouse pointer over the settlement where your inn is located.
  • Choose Call Back to the Inn.

Calling back to an inn does not require any resources, but can only be used once per hour. However, if you’re in a fix, this fast travel option can get you to safety quickly.

Remember your home

After you’ve bought a home in New World, unlock the option to use it as a fast travel hotspot. Unfortunately, owning a house takes a tremendous amount of time and an almost endless supply of gold – not only do you have to make a huge upfront purchase, but you also have to pay taxes on your property over the long term.

As with a call back to an inn, there are no resource costs involved when calling your way back home. Instead, it runs on a cooldown timer, which is determined by the level of your home. In other words, the better your home, the more often you can remember it.

Travel fast with Azoth

The most flexible method of fast travel requires the use of Azoth – an in-game currency that can be acquired by exploring and completing quests. This fast travel system is a little more complex than the other two, but should be familiar to anyone who has played an MMO in the past decade. This is how it works:

  • Make sure you are within the walls of a settlement or other fast travel location.
  • Open your world map.
  • Move the mouse pointer over your fast travel destination.
  • Make sure you have enough Azoth to cover the cost – the exact amount required will be influenced by your load, faction discounts, and total distance.
  • Click Fast Travel to teleport to your destination.

It is worth noting that you can only travel to places that you have already discovered. While this certainly adds to the feeling of discovery and exploration, it also makes it difficult to meet friends who are in parts of Aeternum that have yet to be explored.

When do mounts come to the New World?

Mounts are standard in almost every other MMORPG in existence, but nowhere to be seen in New World. However, this could change with a future update. According to New World Game Director Scot Lane, mounts are likely to show up as the game continues to grow.

“I think our world is not the size right now that mounts warrant.” Lane said. “When we get there with the live game, it will eventually happen; We’ll add mounts when we think they’ll benefit players and we can do them in a really cool way that works for us. “

Until then, however, the best way to explore Aeternum is via the fast travel system.
