Travelers enjoy touchless innovations and can look forward to more comfort in the months to come

  • The test of contactless technology will be extended to DFW terminals and selected Admirals Club lounges
  • More contactless options for checking in luggage with a mobile device
  • Customers prepare for the air with ease thanks to the airline’s travel tools

FORT WORTH, Texas – American Airlines customers who are traveling again this spring will notice a variety of innovations that make traveling even easier and more touch-free than before.

“While fewer customers have traveled over the past year, our team has used their time to develop, test, and implement new ways to bring customers more confidence and convenience while traveling,” said Julie Rath, vice president of customer experience and Reservations. “We’re ready to welcome customers back on board with sophisticated, touchless technology that puts more control in their hands and makes their journeys more comfortable.”

In front of the airport

Even before booking a trip, customers traveling with American can easily see the travel requirements for their dream destination through the airline Travel tool Once you have booked your ticket, use the VeriFLY mobile health pass app to confirm that you have met all travel requirements for your trip.

Customers can also use the American Airlines app to interact with a virtual assistant or live chat with a customer service representative to answer questions about travel. Once it’s time to pack your bags, the app makes it easy to check in for a flight and print tags for bags – without touching a kiosk.

The future is contactless

The airline continues to develop touchless travel options. This month, American is expanding a touchless bag drop test at most terminals at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). Introduced last year At DFW and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), customers who sign up for the study can test the biometric technology to drop their bags without searching for their ID or boarding pass.

The airline will expand the touchless technology trial to gain access to an Admirals Club at DFW later this year and to consider additional airport touchpoints in the future.

The Admirals Club Lounges currently offer touchless ways to read the news or enjoy magazines that can be downloaded for free when visiting the Admirals Club and then take the trip with you. They can be accessed via the QR code or read.aa.com after connecting to the free Admirals Club Wi-Fi signal. Later this spring, American plans to roll out mobile ordering in select Admirals Club lounges.

The lessons learned from these trials will influence future tests to create contactless waypoints throughout the customer’s airport experience, including a biometric domestic boarding test in collaboration with DFW later this year.
