LEXINGTON, Va. — The ninth-ranked Washington and Lee women’s tennis team cruised to an 8-1 win over 16th-ranked Johns Hopkins at home on Saturday.
The Generals improve to 4-1 overall with the win, while the Blue Jays fall to 0-2 overall with the loss.
Four Generals highlighted the match with a hand in two wins each. Senior Taylor Garcia (Mandeville, La. / Mount Carmel Academy) and sophomore Izzy Koziol (Wilton, Conn. / Wilton) teamed up for an 8-4 win at the top doubles position, before both won in straight sets in singles. Garcia won at No. 1 singles, while Koziol claimed the win at No. 3.
sophomore Gaby Moss (Paradise Valley, Ariz. / Chaparral) and junior Becket Waters (Raleigh, NC / Needham B. Broughton) paired up to win by an 8-2 count at No. 2 doubles. Moss then defeated Emily Javedan, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2 singles, while Waters came back at No. 5 for a 4-6, 6-2, 10-0 victory. Junior Martha Mikos (Willowbrook, Ill. / Hinsdale South) (4) and sophomore Kaitlyn Chalker (Kennesaw, Ga. / Rivers Academy) (6) rounded out the singles winners for the generals.
The lone Blue Jays win came from Jessica Liang and Celina Liu at No. 3 doubles by an 8-2 score.
The Generals will return to action on Wednesday when they get back into ODAC action with a 3:00 pm home match against Randolph.
