BISMARCK, ND – As many North Dakotans begin planning trips, the North Dakota Department of Health (NDDoH) wants to remind citizens of COVID-19 travel advice and testing resources.

Travel recommendations

The NDDoH recommends that people postpone travel until they are fully vaccinated. Those who are not fully vaccinated and choose to travel should follow the CDC Recommendations for non-vaccinated people. Information about vaccines and tests can be found online at www.health.nd.gov/together.

All travelers, including those who are fully vaccinated, must wear a mask that completely covers both their nose and mouth when using public transport such as planes or trains and when they are in transport hubs such as airports or train stations.

When traveling, follow all state and local recommendations and requirements, including recommendations for wearing masks and social distancing. To help travelers understand travel restrictions, guides, and resources at their destination, the CDC has a Trip planner tool.

After the trip, citizens will be asked to self-monitor, isolate, and have themselves tested for developing symptoms of COVID-19. In accordance with CDC guidelines, individuals do NOT need to be tested or self-quarantined if they have been fully vaccinated or have recovered from COVID-19 in the past three months.

Test resources

If you’re traveling outside of the state and need to be tested for COVID-19, contact a community testing event, local health unit, state-qualified health center, or pharmacy that offers testing. North Dakotans can find COVID-19 test sites online at www.health.nd.gov/covidtesting.

Please let the staff at your test location know that you are testing for travel purposes and what type of test you will need for your destination. Travelers need to know and understand what test and result documentation is required for their travel destination. Contact your airline or travel agent for information on requirements. The test results are available 48 to 72 hours after the test.

Individuals who need access to their test results should visit the travel page on the NDDoH website (www.health.nd.gov/covidtravel) to complete the travel survey. This survey is monitored seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. local time. The results will be provided as soon as they are available.

The NDDoH cannot provide a copy of the results for a test processed in another laboratory or for a test ordered / collected by a healthcare provider.

The results hotline for Rapid Antigen test results is 701-204-6664. The results hotline is open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The results line is available on Memorial Day.

NOTE: The NDDoH Public Health Hotline 866-207-2880 is closed on Memorial Day, Monday, May 31, 2021. The public health hotline will resume its regular opening hours on Tuesday, June 1, 2021.
