Dedicated movie fans create a trailer for a version of Mission: Impossible which stars Blue, the raptor from Jurassic World, instead of Tom Cruise.

The velociraptors of Jurassic World are extremely intelligent, but some tasks would be frankly impossible for them — which may be why a fan edit replacing Tom Cruise with a raptor in clips from the Mission: Impossible series seems somehow perfect.

An inspired mashup video created by Seth Worley and Daniel Hashimoto of #VFXandChill uses footage from both film franchises to place a live-action dinosaur in the role of Ethan Hunt, Cruise’s Mission: Impossible daredevil spy character. In “Mission: Impossible – But with a Raptor Instead of Tom Cruise,” a CGI raptor with the identifying blue streak of Jurassic World’s Blue wears a suit, drives a car and shoots a gun, all while surrounded by human characters who apparently take it in stride.

The original 1993 Jurassic Park film introduced the world to a fictionalized species of dinosaur called the velociraptor, a six-foot bipedal predator said to be cunning and deadly. Although they had little resemblance to the much smaller velociraptors of real prehistory, the creatures became a fan-favorite trademark of the franchise, and when it was continued through 2015’s Jurassic World, raptors again played an important role. Chris Pratt’s Owen Grady had four under his charge and shared a special bond with one of these, Blue, who survived the fall of Jurassic World and returned for the 2018 sequel, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

Both Owen and Blue will be back again for Jurassic World: Dominion, the third film of the new trilogy. The Mission: Impossible series isn’t slowing down either, with a seventh film scheduled to be released next year and an eighth in the works now. Cruise, who is famed in Hollywood for doing much of his own stunt work, will of course reprise his role as the central character of the high-adrenaline film series.

No crossover between the two franchises has been announced, although some executives may want to reconsider the potential of a velociraptor action spy film once they watch the “Mission: Impossible – But with a Raptor Instead of Tom Cruise” fan edit.

Mission: Impossible 7 hits theaters on July 14, 2023, while Mission: Impossible 8 arrives on June 28, 2024. Jurassic World: Dominion has a head start on them, set to be released on June 10.
