Round Rock police said an officer shot and killed a man at a hotel Monday morning after receiving calls that the man had entered the lobby with a gun and threatened people.

The police did not identify the man killed or the officer involved in the shooting. No one was injured, officials said.

Police Chief Allen Banks said the incident began when police received 911 calls from the hotel, the Home2 Suites by Hilton, 1000 W. Louis Henna Blvd. at 9:45 a.m. on Monday.

Callers reported that a man walked into the lobby, pointed a gun at people, and asked, “Do you want to die?”

“We had several witnesses,” said Banks. “There are several victims who were confronted with a gun by this man.”

The officers arrived at the hotel five minutes later and were confronted by the man with the gun in the lobby, Banks said. He declined to describe what prompted the officers to shoot the man. The man died on the scene after police and firefighters tried to resuscitate him, he said.

The boss said several people fled the hotel or were hiding in the hotel’s offices during the incident. He did not want to estimate how many witnesses there were.

People from nearby stores have also been temporarily evacuated, he said.

“The concern we had there was, ‘Is that an active shooter?’ or should it be an active shooter? ” Banks said. “It was a very active and fluid situation and the officials wanted to make sure the people trapped in it weren’t hurt.”

Banks said the officers would review the body camera footage of the three officers at the scene. All three have been taken on administrative leave, as is typical of a violence incident.

Round Rock Police are investigating a hotel where, according to police, a man was shot dead by a police officer with a gun.

He said the investigation involves the FBI, Texas Rangers and the Williamson County Attorney’s Office. The chief didn’t want to say whether the killed man lived in the hotel.

The most recent shootout involving Round Rock police took place in January 2018 when officials said a dodger shot at officers trying to arrest him.
